In our workshop, Ethical Research in the Age of GenAI, we draw on our business analysis experience to help researchers assess when and how GenAI can be used ethically and defensibly in their work.
Business analysis is especially useful when a new system is being introduced and people need to understand what it should be used for, where the risks sit, and what good use should look like in practice. In the workshop, we ask researchers to borrow that mindset and apply it to the ethical use of GenAI.
To support this process, we have created an ethical GenAI use case tool. The tool helps researchers test a real or potential use of GenAI, moving beyond “Am I allowed to use this?” towards “Can I explain and defend this use?”
Researchers who have taken part in this workshop have provided excellent feedback on both the session structure and the practical use of the tool. It is a timely session for institutions looking to support ethical, confident and defensible GenAI use.
